THE WORD “Maverick” is derived from the sir-name of a Texas cattle-raiser, Samuel Maverick (c.1840), who would not brand his cattle, and it began to be used to refer to any stray animal without an owner’s brand. Eventually it came into popular usage to describe anyone who does not generally conform to traditional norms and who has not only not sold out to the highest bidder but has sold out to no bidder at all.

This major article, in a neatly-produced eBook consisting of 14,000 words in 46 pages, shows that those who, like Samuel Maverick’s cattle, have no human brand on them but only “Christ’s name and His Father’s name written on their foreheads”, symbolically speaking, are those who have withstood the slavish cloning to which so many submit in churches today and are therefore able to take a stand against the corruption, ossification and degeneration of the religious establishment. This article covers the maverick in the secular world, in Old and New Testament times, in stages of human history and shows the necessity of such souls at all stages and in all times in this fallen world.
