Extract from the Explanatory Preface: Twenty-seven years ago, almost to the day today in 1997, I gave two talks before a large audience in the UK. The contents of this eBook is a transcript of those two talks. What hits the reader of this transcript is that such talks could so easily have been given today. In fact, all the sullied issues dealt with in these talks have only deepened and become exponentially mainstream.

It is interesting to realise that these talks were given before some of those now reading this transcript had even been born! The fudging, fence-sitting, double-thinking, waffling — all concealing a secret rage against anyone who has a firm conviction rather than a jellylike opinion — is even more endemic among “evangelicals” in the church scene today. Correspondingly, finding a church to recommend to new converts has become increasingly difficult — like sending children into a minefield. Naïveté is no match for the subtlety of satanic deception.

You may be sitting there thinking how “negative” all this sounds. Well, one has to expose the negative in order to discover the positive. The purpose of these talks was never a negative one. As I say in the talks, my primary goal is a much needed pastoral one. Therefore, I hope that these talks are received in the spirit in which they were originally given. I commend them to you on that basis.
