This is an announcement about the reworking and updating of an article which I first published five years ago, now also with updated links. Having announced it yesterday in my CounterCulture Disciples of Christ Facebook group, I feel it would be useful to do so here on my website as I believe that it is of some relevance to our time. Whether or not you love music (which is a glorious gift from God if it is genuine music), this article will enable you to see how God uses even artists (whether believing or unbelieving) for His own inscrutible prophetic purposes. Concentrating on three composers — Gustav Mahler, Dmitri Shostakovich and Ralph Vaughan Williams — their music is shown in this article to have prophetic qualities which had a profound effect on them, even taking them by surprise, disturbing them to the core.
