THE PHOTO ACCOMPANYING THESE WORDS is of an icon hand-painted on wood by a Greek Orthodox monk which depicts George slaying the dragon. This precious icon is placed on a shelf overlooking where I sit when writing, so as to inspire and encourage me in the formation of my words. Although based on a local Greek myth, this icon is clearly rooted in the Archangel Michael battling successfully against the fallen, apostate Archangel Satan, who is depicted symbolically as a dragon in an account of that battle in chapter 12 of the prophetic Book of Revelation, which was written over nineteen-hundred years ago on the Greek island of Patmos. I have that icon near me as a symbolic reminder that the angels and I do battle against just the kind of empty darkness which so many people ignorantly celebrate on Halloween or Day of the Dead or whatever else you want to call it. “It’s all just good clean fun”, they say. “No, it isn’t”, I reply gravely (pun intended). If you study the real background to this day they call “Hallowe’en”, you will see that it is anything but ‘clean’. It is rooted in the pagan festival of Samhain, of which Halloween is a vague modern remnant. Like many pagan festivals it was rooted in dark superstition and enslavement to demonic entities. Samhain was seen essentially as a celebration of chaos and destruction, in which spirits of any kind would be unleashed on the earth. People would dress themselves as ghosts and ghouls to disguise themselves in the hope of not being possessed by the incoming spirits. In order to depict the abolition of order and a descent into chaos, people would switch genders and cross-dress. (Does that remind you of our own perverted corrupt present time?). Animal sacrifice was practised. So, when people say, “Hallowe’en is good clean fun”, they are really just showing their ignorance and naivety. We are in the midst of a fierce spiritual battle with the forces of darkness. This annual festival is based on superstition and ignorantly wallowing in that darkness.
When one has tasted spiritual cleanness and has had the desire for anything to do with ‘dirt’ removed from one’s heart — which is what happens when one dedicates oneself to being a disciple of Christ — then what takes place on the 31st day of October (or on the two days after that) can be seen as the forces of darkness making fools out of those who are enslaved to them and who are manipulated like pawns on the chessboard of life to imitate part of the dastardly art of demons. It is all so incongruously anachronistic. For the Christ came two millennia ago to cleanse the world of filth, corruption and degradation — though the forces of darkness refuse to acknowledge it and rabidly continue with their futile rebellion against all that is good and Light, for they know that they only have a little time left to complete the building of their doomed ersatz empire (Revelation 12:12). Therefore, at a time when those same forces of darkness are so avidly building up to their climax of evil through their increasing manipulation behind the scenes (known as “the mystery of lawlessness”) to bring in a deceptive one-world government, it is an act of the utmost foolishness and even partaking in apostasy to impersonate theatrical caricatures of that very same darkness and evil and imagine that it is merely “good clean fun”. Only a soul which lives under the power of Satan would be interested in celebrating these humanly-appointed days of evil. For Halloween and all similar days are satanic.
It doesn’t matter if this fake day (on either October 31st, November 1st or 2nd) masquerades as the “Day of the Dead” or “All Saints’ Day” or “All Souls’ Day, it is all still fake. The dead don’t need a day, especially not a day on which those who are alive make themselves look like skeletons and ghosts. It is all just so bizarre and ghoulish. In Mexico, it is claimed that the Day of the Dead, “Día de los Muertos”, is something which goes back to the Aztecs and is therefore indigenous and something to be proud of nationalistically. Others say it is simply part of the Roman Catholic syncretism which came about as a result of the Spanish incursion hundreds of years ago. History dot com says that this day is a syncretistic blend of Mesoamerican ritual, European religion and Spanish culture. Either way, it is something abhorrent to genuine faith in Christ. The Aztecs were hideous sacrificers of humans, including children, and are not to be emulated, especially if one is a disciple of Christ. During Día de los Muertos, the tradition is to build private altars (“ofrendas”) containing the favourite foods and beverages, as well as photos and memorabilia, of the dead friends or relatives. The intent is to encourage visits by the souls, so the souls will hear the prayers and the words of the living directed to them. That is pure sorcery right there. There is a deliberate gulf between the living and the dead (Luke 16:26), and anyone who claims to have contact with them is a charlatan and sorcerer (Deuteronomy 18:10-12). Such necromancy is forbidden, for good reason, as any alleged spirits or souls of the dead among us will be demons masquerading as them (in the same way that they masquerade as ETs). Furthermore, there is no point whatsoever in “praying for the dead”. That is an empty superstition. One cannot alter the circumstances of the dead through prayer. The only thing affecting their circumstances is how they have lived when they were alive, for it is God who “will repay each one according to his deeds” (Romans 2:6). So, whether it is the Aztec version or the syncretistic Roman Catholic version, Halloween and its variants on those three days are an abomination before God.
Moreover, Death is not something to celebrate because it is, in fact, the pay-off for sin, the moral failure of humanity from the beginning (Romans 6:23). Death is actually an anomaly which was only put in place as a result of a Divine judgement on human sin at the beginning of human history. Instead, we need to celebrate the gift of life (physical and, for those who come to Christ, spiritual) and be aware every day of what will become of us when we die and how that is dependent on the way we live our lives and how what we believe makes us behave. As for the idea of All Saints Day, it is a complete fiction because every single disciple of Christ is a saint, as the New Testament makes abundantly clear (e.g. Ephesians 1:1; Philippians 1:1; Colossians 1:2). Saints are those who are sanctified in Christ, chosen by God, indwelt by the Holy Spirit, not those 3000 or so who have been canonized by any so-called Pope, which is an impostor. The very office of the Papacy is an imposture into the Ekklesia with no justification for itself other than the assertion of false authority. Christ needs no “vicar“ on earth; for Christ Himself is the one intermediary between humans and God. Thus, all of it — whether it is Mesoamerican ritual (Aztec evil), European religion (Roman Catholic syncretism) or Spanish culture (nationalistic celebrations) — it is an abomination and celebration of demonic evil.
If I were to dress up as anything on these manmade days of the dead or Halloween, it would be as the Archangel Michael. I would ride gallantly on horseback into the midst of every celebration of evil on those days with my symbolic sword (which is my words) and bring symbolic fire (which is the power of the Light) down from heaven to dress everyone as the angels who never fell for Satan’s filthy lies rather than as the demons who scoff at everything wise. They would be the best quick-change artists ever! That’s what I call clean entertainment. It is no coincidence that humanity should choose to have a day when they celebrate demonology and death; for, unless they come to Christ and vow to be His disciple, that is what they are steeped in and manipulated every day by the forces of darkness pulling their strings and controlling them. We should be imitators of good rather than of evil — of Light rather than darkness — not just today but every day in this countdown to the approaching time when all darkness will reach its climax and thus be eradicated from the cosmos forever in the inauguration of a new aeon: A new heaven and a new earth.
I sincerely hope there are those out there who can say, “Amen”, to all these words.
