[The piece below is an extract from the upcoming second edition of my book “The Serpent & the Cross: Religious Corruption in an Evil Age”. It is taken from Chapter 6, entitled “Knowledge Falsely So-Called: Science and the Satanic Dream”, which is designed to show that in certain significant branches of modern-day scientific research, the prevailing impetus is not one of truth-seeking altruism but is, rather, the tightening of Satan’s grip on the collective unregenerate human mind, alongside a determination to annihilate the already beleaguered biblical concept of the transcendent Jehovah God of the Bible and the primacy of His unique Deity. This small subsection of that chapter deals with Evolution Theory. It is 2,500 words in length and is a brief 13-minute read].

WE HAVE ALREADY EXAMINED the development of ‘Darwinism’ in Chapter 3, when looking at 19th century seeds of corruption. Now we come to look at its place in scientific development as an occult philosophy hellbent on overturning the teachings of the Bible.

It is no exaggeration to say that the heart of antichristian reformation in the development of Western science really began in earnest with the advent of evolution theory or ‘Darwinism’, as it should perhaps more accurately be known. This theory has had a monumental impact on contemporary politics, philosophy, religious systems and the whole panorama of science itself. In many ways, it has provided the ideal backdrop to the satanically-planned demise of the Christian faith and of biblical authority. Charles Darwin himself, according to biographers Adrian Desmond and James Moore, “had written in his covert notebooks that the human mind, morality and even belief in God were artefacts of the brain” (Adrian Desmond & James Moore, Darwin, Michael Joseph, 1991, p.xviii). Once such a view of Deity is held — that God is simply a product or figment of the human psyche — a great many facets at the heart of human existence become similarly relegated to the realms of mere relativism. That the developments in science in the wake of Darwin have paralleled the global demise of Christianity can be seen in this jubilant statement from the thesis of a researcher in the Religious Studies department of Lancaster University:

“For the past two hundred years, the established religion of Christianity has been on the wane and its churches fast emptying of believers. The old God was losing ground before the demonstrable, repeatable, and explainable wonders of modern science. The optimistic scientists of a hundred years ago were positivists. They were positive that it was just a matter of time before science superseded religion as the highest expression of man’s quest for knowledge.First had come magic and superstition, then religion and faith, now science and certainty. How fortunate we were then” (Rogan Taylor, The Death and Resurrection Show: From Shaman to Superstar, Anthony Blond, 1985, p.12). [emphasis added]

The quaint, Victorian philosophy of evolution — standing in stark opposition to the biblical doctrine of the primitive perfection of our first parents and their subsequent fall into sin — can be shown to be not only wholly unscientific but also reliant on ancient ideas of a distinctly satanic origin. (For a far-reaching development of this theme, see Henry Morris, The Long War Against God, Baker Book House, 1989). The true basis for the widespread acceptance of Evolution Theory lies not in any inherent veracity but in the popular desire to be free from responsibility to a personal God and Creator who judges as well as loves, who requires inward righteousness as well as outward worship.

It must be said here that true spirituality upholds the simultaneous nature of both the transcendence (objective omnipotence) and immanence (omnipresence) of the Godhead, while false religion generally seeks to deny the concept of a Transcendent, Creator God and upholds the sole concept of a pantheistic, universal spirit; which is the equivalent of saying, “God is in everything and everything is God”. This is the difference between mysticism and true spirituality. The satanic approach to deity is always based on this pantheism which exalts the element of divine immanence — thus paving the way for the deification of the creature — and nullifies the element of divine transcendence, thereby removing all possibility of a God who judges, or destroys, or saves, or loves, or hates, or just plain is.

We have already, in an earlier chapter, charted Darwin’s personal journey to his theory and the influences which led him there. Here, our business is to see how this theory of evolution has been used as a way of promoting atheism and the New Science (‘scientism’). The development of evolution theory has been a major component in the realisation of every unregenerate person’s dream: Namely, the dream of ‘deicide’ — the killing-off of this God who is ‘wholly other’ than His creation, which He created ex nihilo, out of nothing. For around one hundred and sixty years, this has been the concerted aim of many in the scientific community. Five years after the publication of “The Origin of Species” by Charles Darwin, a secret group of nine leading British scientists was formed which was to have a powerful influence on the future course of Western Science. This “X” Club, as it was known, containing T.H. Huxley and other avowed evolutionists, is credited with having as its business

“the politics of the learned societies, projects of new museums and journals, the periodical warfare with religion and the classics, [and] the place of science in contemporary education” (W. Irvine, Apes, Angels and Victorians (Weidenfeld & Nicholson, 1956), p.183). [emphasis added]

For thirty years this group of antichristians and opposers of biblical authority wielded enormous influence in the field of religion, education and science. There can be no doubt that their campaign has been a resounding success, for we find numerous leading churchmen, such as the former Anglican Archbishop of York, Dr. John Habgood, bemoaning the fact that:

“there are still some Christians who try to protect themselves against what they regard as scientific threats to their faith by reiterating that evolution is only a theory. This is a delusion. Though scientists are certainly not infallible, and though sciences change and develop, it cannot be stated too clearly that evolution is not a theory which might be upset by contrary evidence tomorrow or the day after; it is the only conceivable basis for modern biology” (John Habgood, A Working Faith: Essays and Addresses on Science, Medicine and Ethics, Darton, Longman & Todd, 1980, p.4). [emphasis added]

That view of a former Archbishop of York is of a scientist and philosopher rather than a Christian pastor. He is one among many professing Christians who have ‘killed’ off God and the Bible with their worldly wisdom — gnosis, science. More than four hundred years ago, John Calvin said of such people:

“I know quite well that there is no sport more grateful to you Academics than the rooting out of all faith from the hearts of the godly by casting a shade of doubt over all that they hold dear” (John Calvin [trans. Henry Cole], “A Treatise on the Secret Providence of God”, in Calvin’s Calvinism, Reformed Free Publishing Association, n.d., p.259).

Dr. Habgood has been only one among a majority in the scientific community who bear witness to the pernicious effect of evolutionary theory on both the world of science and our institutions of learning. But it is by no means the case that all intellectual heavyweights support evolution theory. For example, Dr. Wolfgang Smith, former Professor of Mathematics at Oregon State University, shows in his superb book debunking the theories of the French Jesuit pseudo-scientist Teilhard de Chardin, that there are many in the scientific field who do not share the Archbishop of York’s opinionated belief that evolution theory is “the only conceivable basis for modern biology”. On the contrary, as Dr. Smith discloses:

“The fact is that in recent times there has been increasing dissent on the issue within academic and professional ranks, and that a growing number of respectable scientists are defecting from the evolutionist camp. It is interesting, moreover, that for the most part these ‘experts’ have abandoned Darwinism, not on the basis of religious faith or biblical persuasions, but on strictly scientific grounds, and in some instances regretfully, as one could say” (Wolfgang Smith, Teilhardism and the New Religion, TAN Books, 1988, p.1. Dr. Smith’s demolition of Teilhard de Chardin’s evolutionary hypothesis is a joy to read — as is the manner in which he brings out the clear connection between Teilhard and the New Gnosticism. For a solid exposition on biblical creation and a worthy debunking of Evolution Theory, see also Vol.6 in Carl F. Henry, God, Revelation and Authority, Word, 1976-1983).

In his book, Dr. Smith demonstrates that the main problem with Darwinism has been its complete failure to differentiate between macro-evolution and micro-evolution. In the words of Dr. Smith, the latter involves “relatively minor changes in the structure and function of plant and animal forms…which is precisely what Darwin has very convincingly detailed in The Origin of Species” (Ibid., p.5). Macroevolution, on the other hand, involves “a change in the underlying form, the very prototype of the organism. Such a transformation would constitute a leap from one of the major taxonomic groups to another” (Ibid.). As Dr. Smith points out, micro-evolutionary transformations can indeed be observed, whereas macro-evolution — like the so-called “Hundredth Monkey Theory” which we examined in Chapter 4 — is a wholly fictitious projection, an untenable myth developed out of observable data. It would serve us well here to recall yet again the neo-Gnostic scientist Dr. Lyall Watson’s assertion: “When a myth is shared by large numbers of people, it becomes a reality” (Quoted in Lyall Watson, Lifetide, Hodder & Stoughton, 1979, p.158). For this turning of a myth into ‘reality’ has not only occurred in the extravagant claims of the neo-Gnostics — who are awaiting Man’s next ‘quantum leap’ in evolution into a ‘psychic superman’ — but it is also what has happened in the field of evolution theory. As Dr. Smith firmly states:

“The salient fact is this: if by evolution we mean macroevolution…then it can be said with the utmost rigor that the doctrine is totally bereft of scientific sanction. Now, to be sure, given the multitude of extravagant claims about evolution promulgated by evolutionists with an air of scientific infallibility, this may sound strange. And yet the fact remains that there exists to this day not a shred of bona fide scientific evidence in support of the thesis that macro-evolutionary transformations have ever occurred” (Wolfgang Smith, Teilhardism and the New Religion, op. cit., pp.5-6).

The significance of the bogus theory of macro-evolution to the progress of Satan’s earthly ambitions and his strategy during the Last Days cannot be over-emphasised. As one writer puts it: “Every attack on the Christian Faith made today has, as its basis, the doctrine of evolution” (Wallace Johnson, Evolution? (TAN Books, 1992), p.114). What so many Christians have failed to realise is that the secret impulse behind the theorising of the evolutionists has been to kill off God. Sometimes this impulse will not only be alluded to but will even be explicitly stated. For example, on the biology shelves of our universities one can pick up an academic textbook at random in which one finds the following explicit assertion of the hubristic claim which lies in the hearts of more scientists than is generally realised:

“How can I be so sure that God is dead? How do I know that it is not just a superficial passing of the name of God?— just the death of a superstitious understanding foisted upon us by tribal traditions? No, it is the death of the Christian God, One who is now, in our age, absolutely, totally and irrevocably dead! By what right have I to say how he was killed, to describe the method in such detail? I’ll tell you how I can do all these things: because I was there! Because I killed God! There seems to be no place for Him in our organisation today. He had to go. Man will not play junior partner in a firm he thinks he can run better himself. That is why I killed God” (John N. Deely and Raymond J. Nogar (eds.), The Problem of Evolution: A Study of the Philosophical Repercussions of Evolutionary Science, Appleton-Century-Crofts, 1973, p.402, n.19. I found this book on a ‘Biology’ shelf in the University of York Library in 1989).

These words, written as the conclusion to this biology textbook by a Roman Catholic Dominican priest who is also a scientist chillingly highlight the extreme hubris which lies behind all satanic inspiration, of which Evolution Theory is a prime example. The quintessence of evolution does not reside merely in the fact that it is a scientific theory dreamed up by antichristian scientists of the nineteenth century. It actually has its roots in a dominant idea of the ancient satanic religion: The same idea which forms the ground of the equally satanic doctrine of reincarnation. This mystical doctrine — the spiritual counterpart of biological evolution — claims that individual souls evolve through a series of incarnations on Earth, on the pathway to ‘perfection’; and if there is a single doctrine of modern science which has given major impetus to the recent rise of neo-Gnosticism it is the Theory of Evolution. It provided the basis for the theosophical speculations of Helena Blavatsky enshrined in her landmark work “The Secret Doctrine”. Indeed, the Theory itself is a wholly Gnostic idea. This concept needs to be grasped. If I may repeat a quote from earlier in the book, as Dr. Wolfgang Smith puts it so well:

“As a scientific theory, Darwinism would have been jettisoned long ago. The point, however, is that the doctrine of evolution has swept the world, not on the strength of its scientific merits, but precisely in its capacity as a Gnostic myth. It affirms, in effect, that living beings create themselves, which is in essence a metaphysical claim. Thus, in the final analysis, evolutionism is in truth a metaphysical doctrine decked out in scientific garb. In other words, it is a scientistic myth. And the myth is Gnostic, because it implicitly denies the transcendent origin of being; for indeed, only after the living creature has been speculatively reduced to an aggregate of particles does Darwinist transformism become conceivable. Darwinism, therefore, continues the ancient Gnostic practice of depreciating ‘God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth’. It perpetuates, if you will, the venerable Gnostic tradition of ‘Jehovah bashing’ (Wolfgang Smith, Teilhardism and the New Religion, TAN Books, 1988, pp.242-243) [emphasis added].

That last sentence could not be better put. In the occult echelons of Freemasonry (which also has its roots in the ancient Mystery Religions), there is also a great emphasis on the Evolution Theory. In his book, “The Meaning of Masonry”, Master Mason and masonic scholar W.L. Wilmhurst writes:

“This — the evolution of man into superman — was always the purpose of ancient mysteries… Man, who has sprung from the earth and developed through the lower kingdoms of nature, to his present rational state, has yet to complete his evolution by becoming a god-like being and unifying his conscience with the Omniscient” (W.L. Wilmhurst, The Meaning of Masonry, Bell Publishing, 1980, pp.47, 94).

The theory of evolution is, therefore, the scientific equivalent of “the Emperor’s new clothes” — a belief which becomes “the only conceivable basis for modern biology” if a person has a vested interest in the death of the transcendent God of Christianity and the promotion of the gnosis. Evolution Theory is, essentially, an occult ideology which blasphemes our Creator and logically leads to the deification of the creature.

In the next section of this chapter on science (falsely so-called) and the satanic dream, we will look at, firstly, the usurpation of God’s creative agenda through the fields of genetics and embryology, then the usurpation of God’s transformative powers through the development of Transhumanism.
