While I was sitting on a park bench today, I wrote down these words which came to me:

“Halloween is the peaking of an obsession with the gruesome, the macabre, and the demonic for those who know nothing else. When one is part of the “whole world” which “lies under the power of the evil one” (1 John 5:19), one knows nothing of the beauty of good angels, the glory of God and the excellence of Christ. Halloween is a day on which people are given permission to celebrate the worst kind of tackiness and darkness. It’s like an eruption of kitsch corruption and evil, all masquerading as ‘good clean fun’, in the spirit of ‘those who turn darkness to light and light to dartkness’ (Isaiah 5:20)”.

Genuine disciples of Christ find Halloween to be repellent and as far removed from their way of life as is possible, for it celebrates everything that is disgusting, and repulsive to anyone who lives in the light of Christ. It all seems totally alien and even insane. Halloween is simply a hobby for the lost. However, if you want to know more about Halloween, its origins, its influence and even a short story about it (taken from a book I was writing some years ago but never finished), the three pieces below, all very different, will give you an educational and empirical experience. I hope you find them helpful…
