Popularity is a snagful curse
which soon beguiles its victims to its spit.
It’s like bad breath (I don’t know which is worse!),
and soon one will become a hypocrite.
So “woe to you when all speak well of you”,
just like with all false prophets, now or then.
The world will love a charlatan, that’s true;
and make into a hero rank conmen.
I fawn over no one (for that’s a curse),
and also eschew those who fawn on me.
If there’s one thing to which I am averse…
well, that is global popularity.
Thus, I have no desire to be admired
by a world so corrupt and uninspired.
